Rafat Abonour is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from University of Damascus, Damascus, Syria followed by internship, residency and fellowship from University of Wisconsin, Madison, Sinai Samaritan Medical Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Dr. Abonour has been active in clinical research since he joined Indiana University School of Medicine in 1995 and his work has been published in Nature Medicine and New England Journal of Medicine among others. His role as a leader of the Multiple Myeloma Program has allowed him to participate in practice changing research using IMID’s and Proteasome inhibitors. He has facilitated clinical research at Indiana University Simon Cancer Center and Indiana University School as the Medical Director of clinical research and the associated dean for clinical research.
Dr. Abonour is also active with the international Myeloma Foundation and the American Society of Hematology (ASH) and his outside collaboration has focused on disease registry to help understand the course of disease outside clinical trials. His clinical interests include bone marrow transplantation, B cell malignancies, gene therapy and hematopoieisis. He is board certified in hematology and internal medicine from American Board of Internal Medicine.
