Rafat Abonour is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from University of Damascus, Damascus, Syria followed by internship, residency and fellowship from University of Wisconsin, Madison, Sinai Samaritan Medical Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
 
Dr. Abonour is also active with the international Myeloma Foundation and the American Society of Hematology (ASH) and his outside collaboration has focused on disease registry to help understand the course of disease outside clinical trials. His clinical interests include bone marrow transplantation, B cell malignancies, gene therapy and hematopoieisis. He is board certified in hematology and internal medicine from American Board of Internal Medicine.
