The Associação Brasileira de Paramiloidose – ABPAR was founded on November 17, 1989, in the Convention Hall of the Hotel Rio Copa, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. In December of that same year, it acquired legal status after being registered with a notary and published in the Official Gazette.
 

ABPAR proposes to disclose and promote adequate means of treatment and recovery for individuals with Family Amyloidotic Polyuropathy (FAP), regardless of their social class, nationality, sex, race, color or religious belief.

In particular, the organization intends to: 

• promote screening and registration of all patients with Family Amyloidotic Polyuropathy, of the Portuguese type and other mutations, in Brazil
• make health services aware of PAF problems
• to work with the competent entities in order to establish a program to assist patients with FAP, namely the creation of regional centers for assistance and treatment with specialized personnel
• cooperate with central or local administration as well as with other organizations, in pursuit of these purposes
• promote courses, seminars, conferences, congresses and other similar activities, on PAF

The organization supports in many other activities.
